As a Muslim, you may have heard the story of how a certain angel refused to bow before Prophet Adam (peace be upon him). This story centers on knowledge. According to Suratul Baqarah verses 31 to 34, Almighty Allah taught Prophet Adam about certain things that the angels did not know. He requested that the angels discuss these things he taught Adam but they confessed that they knew nothing about these things. Then he instructed Prophet Adam to tell the angels about these things and he was able to because Allah had given him the knowledge.

For his ability to teach the angels those things, our lord requested that the angels bow before him. The angels did as Allah commanded but one angel refused to bow before Prophet Adam (peace be upon him). This angel was Iblis, the one now known as Shaytan. Shaytan was disobedient and arrogant.
